The Astronaut’s Whale by Joey Barro

Announced as a Mom’s Choice Awards Winner!! Click here to read more

The Astronaut’s Whale was originally a poem, written in 2011. In 2016 the poem went viral because it was connected to a fan theory to be the inspiration for the K-Pop group Exo’s song “Sing for You.” Since then the poem has received over 50K reads and sparked my interest to publish this as a picture book. The poem still receives multiple visitors per day, I’ve received requests for translations in a variety of languages, and even a request to approve a theatrical version of the poem from a group in Mexico.

Plot

Join Vincent the whale and Augie the astronaut on a deep-sea, deep space adventure of a lifetime exploring the values of home, family, individuality, and friendship. "The Astronaut's Whale" is a children's poem about Vincent's unlikely encounter with Augie in his home under the sea. After the two of them spark a friendship, Augie tows Vincent to space with his rocketship. The two of them explore the far reaches of the planets and stars with excitement and adventure. However, as time slowly passes having fun, Vincent becomes uncertain about his exploration and adventure. With the help and guidance of Augie, Vincent soon realizes that he misses his family and must return to his life as a sea dweller, even though he will have future friendship adventures ahead of him. Vincent and Augie return to their respective homes and remain friends until the end.

Let’s Be Brave Together- Pajama Jam

Pajama Jam is the children's music brainchild of Chris Couch (World's Finest).

Chris started singing silly songs while teaching music classes in preschools around the Portland area. Over the years, Pajama Jam has evolved into a fully interactive children's band, leading to performances at Northwest String Summit and Beltane music festivals, among others. With the idea of making children's music for adults to enjoy as well, Chris has brought the band into the studio and is currently working on the first full-length Pajama Jam album.

Last fall Chris found out that Dreamboat Records was partnering up with the Children's Cancer Society. He wrote, "Let's Be Brave Together" to try and help ease the fear that comes along with the uncertainty of an illness. When quarantine effectively shut down the music industry ecosystem, Chris reached out to a bunch of friends in the Portland music scene and had them all record their parts from their homes. The result was a testament to the magic that can happen when people collaborate to create something together and a reminder that working together with one's community is important in uncertain times.

In addition to the current Pajama Jam studio project, Chris is currently working on a full-length solo album. Both albums are expected to be released next year.
